The Board of Governors of The Presbyterian College, Montreal, announces that the Rev. Dr. Roland De Vries has shared his decision not to seek reappointment as Principal of the college at the conclusion of his term in 2026. Principal De Vries was appointed to the role by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 2021, having previously served in the role of Director of Pastoral Studies at the college (2015-2021).
The Board of Governors also confirms a transition timeline that will Principal De Vries depart from the role in December 2026. At its regular meeting of February 26, 2026, the Board alo began the process of reviewing the position description of Principal and took steps to initiate a search for the next Principal of The Presbyterian College, Montreal. As God has faithfully guided the college over its past 160 years, we trust God’s faithful presence and guidance in this period of transition and change.
In sharing his decision not to seek reappointment, Principal De Vries has expressed his gratitude for his time at the college. “In my time as Director of Pastoral Studies, and then as Principal, I have been richly blessed, encouraged, and taught by students, colleagues, and friends within this community. I also believe that, in my own small way, I have contributed to the wellbeing and flourishing of the college; its students and community.”
Roland has shared that his intention is to return to congregational ministry following the conclusion of his service at the college. “I look forward to returning to the work of preaching, teaching, missional leadership, and pastoral care within a congregation, which I see as my primary calling.”

He has served faithfully, with deep care for students and for the ministry/programs of the college. There will be a future opportunity for the college community to acknowledge his service and for us to express our gratitude.
