Cuba Study Tour 2024

Each year, students of the Montreal School of Theology participate in a one-week study tour in Cuba—visiting Matanzas Seminary and the City of Havana.

You are invited to join this study tour this year!!

You will meet with Cuban youth, leaders, health workers, artists and others who are transforming their communities. You will visit churches and social change organizations and see, first-hand, the vibrant hope and spirituality of the Cuban people.

Discover the rich fabric of Cuban culture through jazz, concerts, museum visits, lectures, and free time in Havana and Varadero. Reflect on your experiences and share insights with your fellow travellers. And return home inspired to act on what you learn.

Accommodations at the seminary in Matanzas are very simple (but clean and safe) and the accommodations in Havana are usually in a local tourist hotel.

The tour will be led by Roland De Vries (Principal, The Presbyterian College) and Alyson Huntly (Director of United Church Studies, Montreal Dio). Participants will be asked to sign a community covenant for the trip, found here, along with a waiver form, found here.

Comments from Past Participants

“Accommodations and meals were first class. Cubans are so friendly and extend themselves to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. We spent time exploring in depth, with time to ask questions.

“Highlights for me…all the cultural experiences, creating connections within our group, and seeing how Cubans manage to do so much with so little.”

“Christianity is very much alive in Cuba!”
